The Bambi Molesters

I was in the mood for some good old-fashioned real surf music this morning and I stumbled across this amazing band, with an awesome name, The Bambi Molesters.

The Bambi Molesters are a surf rock band from Sisak, Croatia. Since their formation in 1995, they have taken part in the revival of the 1960s surf genre and continue to significantly contribute to its survival and further development with their critically acclaimed music.

Their music is like pure vintage surf but at times a hint of gypsy comes in, almost like DeVotchKa meets Link Wray. Totally awesome, and their live shows would have to be amazing.

The Bambi Molesters are:
Dinko Tomljanović – guitar
Lada Furlan Zaborac – bass
Dalibor Pavičić – guitar
Hrvoje Zaborac – drums

OK, we got all that, now let’s get to the music. The only problem with that is they have so many great tracks to play. Where to start?

OK, we’ll start here, an awesome opening riff and we’re off. We’re back in the sixties and the surf is running. It’s all chills and great chords rolling along. A touch of the lonely Mexican trumpet to back them and then the reverb snatchers step in and bring it home.

This is the trailer for their concert film “A Night In Zagreb”, I’ve been to Zagreb a few times and never saw anything like these guys. Mind you that was back in the seventies when it was in Yugoslavia.
Another chill inducing track.

A Spanish classic, except it’s Cuban.  “Malagueña”, a song by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona; written in 1928 it was originally the sixth movement of Lecuona’s Suite Andalucia, to which he added lyrics in Spanish.
This is probably the most rousing version you could ever hear.
Another track performed at the “A Night In Zagreb” concert. Wow! what a night that must have been.

A very evocative piece this is, it could have been used as the soundtrack piece to the episode where Paulie and Christopher try to dispose of the Russian in Pine Barrens in South Jersey. Great track.

Just for a change a different concert, this is live @ Garaža.
A spooky moody piece, great music for Halloween or any time really.
These guys are so good. That sound is so low, that bass so deep.

We’re gonna end with something different, a noirish video of a road trip,
with a lush sound and awesome percussive backing. It’s not credited, but I have to believe this video was shot on the Croatian shoreline, such a beautiful spot.
