High Violet

High Violet is a wonderful new band from the land down under.

High Violet hails from Adelaide and Sydney, and they are Ricky, Emily, Emily & Dan. That must be tricky two Emily’s. But then I saw one of them is named Smem! Second Em?

But boy do they make great music, so let’s get to it.

High Violet have just unveiled this music video – shot in Adelaide by film student, Catherine Francis, edited by band member, Emily Retsas and assisted by Alister Douglas.

The clip started as a collaboration with the film and screen students at Flinders University in Adelaide, as an initiative curated by Music SA, in an effort to create a synergy between the media students and the local music scene. It references a dark pop art, taking cues from neo-noir crime thrillers and late-night suburban sprawl and works in with the brooding nature of the track.

The shoot ran throughout an entire night in the media lecture theatre at Flinders University and was completed before class commenced the following morning.

Awesome vocals, awesome harmonies, awesome drums, awesome guitars. Did I mention I think this track is awesome? Pure dream pop with a tinge of psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll.

This is their previous release, a real pounding rocker.
How often do you come across a band with three lead singers, who are all excellent, and they also become backup singers as the situation arises. And they are all excellent guitar/bass players. All that plus a drummer who could hang with Keith.
