Astrid S

Today we have another stunning talent from Scandinavia.
Astrid Smeplass was born in the Rennebu municipality in Norway, known professionally as Astrid S, she is an extremely talented singer / songwriter.

Astrid S is starting a tour next month, first up two sold out concerts in New York and Los Angeles and then on to London which is probably sold out as well. And then on to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Busy girl.

So let’s take a wander through this young ladies musical catalog, and for one so young it is extensive.

This stunning video was my introduction to the wonderful Astrid S, with a snappy electro-beat this is a song to set your feet tapping. Very cool.  This is Astrid’s latest single release.

This next one is taken from her debut EP “Astrid S”, another bright beautiful electro-beat and totally addictive. I’m guessing this was shot in Norway, the scenery is stunning.

Back in 2013 at the tender age of 16 Astrid Smeplass appeared on the Norwegian version of “Idol”, she came in fifth which seems to be a good number. While on there she did an awesome version of this Dolly Parton classic, but with only 90 seconds it was a little hurried. And then I found this version at an open air concert in Allsang på Grensen. Prepare to have your heart broken.

Here’s a great acoustic song recorded live in the studio, a really cool song and a wonderful performance by Astrid. The more I hear her voice the more enraptured I am by her talent.

We’re gonna finish, as I frequently do, with a live version of the song we started with.
This is from a performance live on “Skavlan” in Sweden on Sveriges Television (SVT).

Oh boy do we have an amazing talent for you today, she is from the Netherlands and at times she has a touch of that other fabulous Dutch singer Wende Snijders. But she is unique to herself.
Sevda Alizadeh, better known by her stage name Sevdaliza , is an Iranian-Dutch alternative R&B singer/songwriter.

Sevdaliza was born in Iran, but she moved with her family to the Netherlands when she was sixteen on a basketball scholarship, eventually playing on the Dutch national basketball team. She went to university, graduating with a master’s degree in communications.

She is renowned for her musical career, specially collaborating with Rotterdam-based producer Mucky. She released two extended plays The Suspended Kid and Children of Silk in 2015. Her debut album is scheduled to be released this year.

There is so much good stuff in her catalog that I have to take you on a little tour through her music. And this is going to be a treat for all.

First up we have a very striking and stylized video for an awesome song.
Sevdaliza is singing this for us all. Totally the bomb.

Another beautiful dramatic video for an equally dramatic song.
The contrast of that deep bass beat and Sevdaliza’s soaring beautiful vocalizing is unique and awesome.

Where has this lady been all my life? She makes the kind of music I could live with forever, and her videos are a thing of beauty. The music is so different from practically everything else out there.

And the gifts just keep coming, another artful video with a cool car and a beautiful lady.
Not to be confused with Backstreet Luv (Curved Air) this is one cool tune with some heavy beats and again the awesome voice of Sevdaliza. I believe we have finally found a replacement for Donna Summer in the sexy songs stakes.

Sevdaliza sounds more vulnerable here than on any other track I’ve heard so far. But don’t be that other girl, we love you just as you are. Another beautifully crafted video.

Wow! No two videos the same, not even close. Another great track from Sevdaliza, plenty of deep bass and sparkly musical sprinkles in this one. Plus that hypnotic voice. We won’t cry.

Finally today I’m gonna leave you with a true experience. Here’s Sevdaliza live at Best Kept Secret 2016 which is a music festival in the Netherlands. And just FYI Best Kept Secret 2017 is already sold out.
Such pure beautiful vocals.

Scott Taylor

Blues on a Sunday evening, the sun is still bright, won’t be next week with that dang fall back. But just time to kick back and enjoy some blues.

DC-based soul man Scott Taylor is the genuine article. He has spent his life entrenched in music, playing late night blues clubs and getting up to sing gospel at church in the morning. Just one listen, and you know he feels the blues.

A new blues player doesn’t emerge every day, and I’m so happy to find Scott Taylor today. An ever-loving true blues man. I’m sorry I’m just blown away, I didn’t dream another blues singer of this caliber would come along in my lifetime.

Scott has found a home at Fetal Records out of Annapolis where he is putting the finishing touches on his first album for the label, a collection of songs he describes as “unfiltered and straight from the gut”. The blues-man has been laboriously tracking his new material, collaborating with blues guitar virtuoso Tony Fazio with Charlie Sayles playing harmonica on several tracks, while still finding time to play piano at Church on Sundays.

Here’s the first single from the album and this is the real blues, straight from the south. It’s just so damned good.

While looking around for some more of his music I found this cool video.
The video won First Place @ 2016 Long Beach Indie International Film, Video, and Music Festival. Scott in fine form and get a load of that bass line.

Good news, bad news? Here’s the bad news, I couldn’t find any more music to post here, but the good news I’m listening to the album on a private stream and it’s awesome.
You just have a hang for a bit, Scott’s forthcoming album, Blues Kitchen, is out 11-18-16. So keep an eye out, if you like the blues you are sure gonna dig this.
