Seldom Few

If you followed the old blog you may well remember Vapour Night which was the solo project of Ali Murray from the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. He released a couple of very cool, albeit very dark albums under that nomme de guerre.
Well Ali is back and this time he’s expanded into a threesome, not him personally of course. But he’s added two new sidekicks and they have a new band name, Seldom Few. They’re an atmospheric rock trio with a dark alternative shoegaze experimental sound.

Seldom Few are:
Ali Murray – vocals, guitars, misc
Zander Young – drums
Richard Macdonald – bass

Seldom Few have just released their first album, and guess what, yes you can hear it here. Give it a listen, I think you’ll dig it, like me.

It’s a very interesting album full of surprises and changes along the road.
Sometimes very dark and occasionally light and airy.
Seldom Few

All music written and performed by Seldom Few.
All lyrics written by Ali Murray.
Recorded by Ali Murray and Keith Morrison on the Isle of Lewis in the north of Scotland. Some additional assistance from Eleanor Nicolson.

Additional backing vocals on ”Last Ride” and ”The Parting Waters” by Richard Macdonald.

Chance and the Lucky Aces

Five years ago I featured their song “I shot a Frenchman at Agincourt” on the old blog. They’re back ! ☺
I did warn you at the time that Chance and the Lucky Aces would be releasing an EP, seems they’ve finally done it. Not the most prolific of bands, but I did hear they have a problem getting out of bed.  ☺ I know from trying to find any, that it is difficult getting them all into the same photo.

I also heard that getting them together for rehearsals was a lot like herding kittens. ☺

The current lineup for these Leeds rockers is:
Lead Vocals: Chance
Guitar: David Maguire
Bass: Eddie Young
Drums: Brian Madigan

The EP by the way is called “Breakfast With Chance and the Lucky Aces”.

So why are they here you ask, as did I. errrmm Oh yes, they have a new single from that EP that’s kind of awesome.

This song will ruin everything. I’m sure there is something about 9 months and babies in there,  ☺  but then again I could be wrong.

Anyhow, it’s a rollicking rocking little number, and the video is sort of interesting. ☺  You’re gonna love it, and you need to buy the EP otherwise they will run out of supplies (beer).

Enjoy the rocking rolling essence that is Chance and the Lucky Aces.

99 Red Buffoons

An amazing band with a unique singer and even better, a new album that is just bad to the bone.  Meet DRÆMINGS and let them make your dreams. The new album is “The Eternal Lonesome”.

DRÆMINGS spent her early years reading dark fairy tales while listening to a warped cassette tape of Ace of Base’s The Sign on repeat.

At 17, she ran away to San Francisco, where she was adopted by a gang of drag queens and street urchins. She embarked on a strange, magical adventure which included a short stint as a gangster rapper, an incubation period in India, and a heart-break fueled weekend that resulted in her writing 5 songs that would comprise her demo, and the birth of DRÆMINGS.

Anyway let’s get to the music, and what superb music it is.

This song is so good on so many levels. It is totally current yet has an 80’s feel to it. Fantastic vocals and awesome backing. A great single from a brilliant album.

Here is the opening track from their awesome album, this is a live version from the CBGB stage at YouTube Studios.
And you better believe it, its damned amazing.
The band really rocks, very tight.
Battle Mountain

Just found this really dreamy cool cover of Scott McKenzie’s classic, and had to share it.
San Francisco

OK, final one for today. A great re-mix of Battle Mountain. This truly soars.

Battle Mountain [Weatherhouse Remix]

No wait, I just found this, an “unofficial” video which was shot by Mackenzie Madison and edited by DRÆMINGS.

“It’s a little montage of my time in NY, most of which was spent sick as a dog, laying in bed, or hanging out at random art/photo studios… it was lovely.”

It’s a really cool video and a brilliant track, shimmering guitars, perfect shoegaze.
