Cats of Transnistria

? Eetu Maaranen

We all know what a cat is, but what is a Transnistria?
Transnistria: Transnistria (also called Trans-Dniestr or Transdniestria) is a breakaway state located mostly on a strip of land between the River Dniester and the eastern Moldovan border with Ukraine. It is internationally recognised as part of the Republic of Moldova but whose de facto independence is maintained with the assistance of Russian forces.

Allegedly there are no cats in Transnistria.

So we have Cats of Transnistria who are a slow and deep duo from Helsinki, Finland.
Cats of Transnistria are Tuomas Alatalo and Henna Emilia Hietamäki.

So let’s get to hear this awesome music.

First up this deliciously dark piece, amazing guitar work and the beautiful voice of Henna
It has a great video of beach scenes through the ages, not too sure much of it is from San Francisco though. Some of the surfing stuff could be from Mavericks on a quiet day. Some of the older stuff could have been from the Sutro Baths.

Next up a live Sofar performance from Helsinki. Sofar do such a great job producing these videos all around the world. The performance is just as good as their recordings are, proving them to be real artists. Oh and her voice, her voice.

? Sofia Okkonen

Another beautiful blend of dream pop vocals and fuzzy, psyched guitar and of course the keyboards. This tune is hypnotically brilliant, it engages you from the very beginning right up to the final notes. If only all music could be this inclusive.
The Departure

The video, directed by friend and photographer Sofia Okkonen, slowly unwinds through shadows and smoke to reveal a fine band performance full of emotion and mood, reflecting The Departure’s dream state structure and sense of longing. Hypnotic and at times surreal, The Departure’s 7 plus minutes is something to get lost in.

I’m not sure what this one is about, but then you can all read the lyrics? text? the same as every one else. But seriously, this is another gem of dark decadent mood pop. Just enjoy it.

Cats of Transnistria esiintyy Stupido-klubilla 13.5. Illan muut esiintyjät ovat Cyan Kicks ja For Tomorrow.

We are going to finish up with this 10 minute masterpiece, it’s slow but beautiful. It’s worthwhile taking the time to kick back and enjoy this awesome piece.
Cats Of Transnistria’s recently released debut album Divine, has been warmly received, with many commenting on the album’s atmosphere, beauty and dark charisma. The centre piece of the album is the 10 minute-plus trance-invoking Displacement: repetition, slow build with noisy release – Cats of Transnistria tell us that Displacement is “a song of wanting to be anywhere else than here and of the enormous joy one feels when finding a way out'”

Katie Burden

I first became aware of Katie Burden a few months back when I did a piece about the first single from her debut album, Strange Moon.

Then today I noticed another single and video dropped.
And what a video it is, wow, wild, surreal to say the least.

Katie filmed the video in 110-degree desert heat and was buried up to her head in the hot sand!

The video is visually stunning and the song is an aural treat. I have heard it many time as the album Strange Moon is rarely of my play list.

So here it is, kick back and enjoy the awesome voice of Katie Burden.

Alpines is Catherine Pockson and Bob Matthews, they hail from Kingston Upon Thames, near London. Have a feeling of Deja Vu? That is the same line I opened with on the old blog.
Alpines are the awesome purveyors of trip hop, electro-pop, rock, dark art pop, and soul.
Me I just call it great music.

The London duo return with one of the most crafty and emotive R&B records you’ll hear this year, out October 28 via Metropolis Recordings.

Teased earlier this year with the slick intimacy of Completely, Alpines’ sophomore LP Another River pares down the sound of their 2014 debut Oasis. This new effort is not so much the sound of a duo finding their feet, as it is an utterly standout performance from a couple of intrepid sonic experimenters subtly refining their craft.

Their futurist brand of production renders Catherine Pockson’s R&B melodies into dazzling soundscapes, each thrumming with a life of its own.

And that’s where we are going, to the music.

Here is their latest video release, the track is from their forthcoming album ‘Another River’ due to drop next month. If this track is anything to judge by this is gonna be an awesome album. Catherine’s voice soars to the heights, shades of Annie Lennox. Just awesome.

So check out this recently released track, another from the forthcoming album. Awesome song, amazing vocals and tremendous hair. Beautiful dark resonating sound.

I am still amazed that they are not bigger than they are. Take this track for instance, released in 2014. It is just the perfect trip-hop tracks, music to make you happy, despite the darkness of the delicious vocals and the backing.

We’re gonna finish with this great track, glorious beats and wonderful vocals. I defy you to keep your feet still to this gorgeous song,
